The Chinese Government Forced a Famous Blogger to Publicly Apologize After Questioning the Legitimacy of the Casualties Between India and China’s Dispute

  • By Steph. G. Halston
  • (General Dispatch) – A popular blogger who writes under the pseudonym “Labixiaoqiu” on the Weibo platform was forced to live-stream an apology for questioning official Chinese government figures regarding the Himalayan dispute with India.
  • Last June the Chinese army had a dispute in the Himalayas with Indian soldiers, a fact of which the Chinese Communist Party kept silent for months, until recently when it claimed that there were only four casualties on the part of its army.
  • The version of the Chinese communist party was put in doubt because the Indian government assured that its side had suffered at least 20 casualties and in the same communiqué sentenced that the rival’s casualties had been twice as high as theirs.
  • “I feel extremely ashamed of myself, and I’m very sorry. My behavior was an annihilation of conscience,” Labixiaoqiu said.
  • “During the many years I surfed online, my writings have become more and more frivolous and arrogant. Without learning about the whole picture, I spoke ill of the heroes who gave their lives to guard our home. My words not only hurt the reputation and honor of those soldiers, but of all PLA soldiers,” Labixiaoqiu finished.
  • Since the release of the communiqué, criticism has been growing from different sectors since it is assured that there is a lack of transparency on the part of the government with the figures and the events that took place.
  • For its part, the Chinese government has been in charge of censoring and delegitimizing any kind of opinion contrary to what they propose, being the case of the blogger the most recent one.
  • So far there is still a lack of clarity on the part of the authorities about what happened and the deaths, the Indian government assured that they came out well out of this dispute being the Chinese soldiers who withdrew after the events.
