  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – Germany issued a statement in which travelers coming from northeastern France will have to comply with more requirements to be able to enter the country; this measure was adopted due to the fact of high Covid infections.
  • The Robert Koch Institute responsible for disease control and prevention informed that it will add to a list those countries with high infection rates, in order to protect its citizens.
  • The countries added to the list are: Czech Republic, Portugal, United Kingdom and some areas of Austria. One of the requirements for entry will be a recent “negative” Covid test.
  • Clement Beaune, France’s Minister for European Affairs is concerned about those Moselle residents who need to move across the border for their work activity and is trying to reach negotiations with Germany over the rule being taken.
  • Beaune has asked that this type of testing be done for longer days or that other methods are sought. The infection rate in Moselle is 350 per 100,000 inhabitants, which is high compared to Germany’s rate of 60 per 100,000 inhabitants.
  • Germany is concerned about virus variants that may be more aggressive or their infection rate is even higher, one such case occurred in Great Britain, called B.1.1.7.
  • The German government seeks to prioritize the distribution of single-dose vaccines in order to immunize as many citizens as possible. One such option is the AstraZeneca vaccine.
