Senator Hawley Proposes Multi-Billion Dollar Companies Pay Employees $15 an Hour

  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – Hawley proposes a plan where employees receive a salary above the minimum wage in order to contribute to the quality of workers and make an equitable distribution of profits received by companies that generate revenues over $ 1 billion.
  • In these complex times, there are companies that continue to generate billions of dollars without taking into account the situation of the workers, including those who continue to receive the same minimum wage since 2009 without any type of increase.
  • At the same time Hawley presented the Blue collar Bonus program that will allow employees of small businesses to opt for credits based on hours worked.
  • If an employee earns $12 per hour, he would be eligible to receive a credit of $2.25 per hour according to Hawley’s program, in one year the worker could receive a loan in excess of $4,000, dividing the debt in different installments according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).
  • The Reuters news agency conducted a poll in which a considerable number of Americans agreed, and 35% do not think the increase is a good idea.
  • The minimum wage has been stagnant due to free trade policies and the immigration factor that affects the nation day after day, and this increase may aggravate the situation, attracting even more undocumented immigrants to the country.
  • According to a research of the Institute of Economic Policy specified that the salary of Americans has only had an increase of 22% from 1979 to 2017 unlike billionaires who have had a rate of gain of 300%.
