Yale University Sued for Racism

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – A group of students has sued Yale University and Harvard University for discriminatory conduct in admitting their students, acting in a classist manner and preventing Asian-Americans from pursuing a career.
  • SFFA President Edward Blum, referring to such classist colleges and universities, said that just because they are competitive does not mean they engage in discriminatory behavior, even to the point of making admissions tests more complex.
  • “Students applying to undergraduate and graduate programs should be judged on their individual talents, character, academic abilities, extracurricular achievements, and socioeconomic background, but not on the color of their skin,” Blum said.
  • Yale University receives federal funding from state and other agencies, with Health alone receiving $630 million a year. In the Trump administration worked in conjunction with the Department of Justice to follow up on this situation.
  • Yale University was under investigation for denying application to whites and Asian-Americans, but this investigation was terminated the moment President Biden took office.
  • In 2014, Harvard University received a lawsuit for SFFA having preferences with white, Hispanic or black students’, leaving out Asian Americans; the basis of the lawsuit was that it violated civil rights under Title VI of the act.
  • According to Blum, even though universities seek racial diversity, the idea is that they accept any type of race, the majority of Americans (76%) disagree with this type of modality, and that applicants must go through strong discrimination.
  • This lawsuit went to the U.S. Supreme Court, which after a long litigation, is expected to have solutions and students of Asian origin can enter universities without this type of complications.
