- (General Dispatch) – The new chairwoman of the Tokyo Olympic Committee Seiko Hashimoto, in her most recent speech, hinted at the possibility of no foreign fans at the upcoming Olympics.
- “If the situation is tough and it would make the (Japanese) consumers concerned, that is a situation we need to avoid from happening,” Hashimoto added.
- The possible decision has not gone down well with most Olympic fans, who say that leaving out this large number of foreign fans violates the basic essence of the Olympics.
- In a recent survey it was concluded that 80% of the country did not agree with the realization of the great event so it is intended to opt for all necessary measures to ensure the health conditions of athletes and staff.
- Although it is not a definitive decision, it is under discussion with the Olympic Committee and all those involved, therefore there is a high percentage that it will become a reality.
- It is expected that another situation to arise before the beginning of the event is to see what will be the actual number of athletes that will be able to enter the nation due to the sanitary measures applied by the nation.
- The feeling of uncertainty follows the footprint of the Olympic Games to be held this year, where there are very few lasting certainties in time.
- Japan has been one of the countries that has best managed the pandemic and has known how to reduce its peaks. Therefore, the organizers are confident that the country has the necessary preventive measures and schemes in place to be able to host the event.
