  • By James Kravitz
  • The COVID-19 Relief Plan was submitted to a vote early this Saturday morning by the U.S. House of Representatives, the aforementioned plan contemplates $1.9 trillion to support the most vulnerable sectors of the country.
  • The American Rescue Plan was presented by the Democrats and the current Biden administration, obtaining an approval of 212 votes in favor out of 219, without the support of any Republican, and with only two Democrats voting against.
  • The proposal’s specific target includes $1.4 billion in aid for U.S. citizens, and $350 billion for government budgets, as well as $130 billion projected to support the reopening of pandemic-affected schools that require more funding.
  • The breadth of the proposal also considers a federal unemployment benefit, which will increase progressively from week to week. Backed by large entities according to a letter to Congress.
  • For its part, the health sector will have $46 billion to support logistical work related to COVID-19, and $14 billion to make vaccination reach a wider population.
  • According to polls, there is broad support for the project among Americans, with resources to be distributed in varying proportions depending on income level.
  • The closest thing to reality is that the proposal is going through a scenario of uncertainty in the Senate, where different criteria are being debated, both in support and opposition to the bill.
  • Experts on the issue point out that the package incorporates multiple non-COVID-19 expenditures. However, Biden said that what is at stake is the health of the nation, and that it will be a major problem down the road.
