Google Will Stop Selling ads but Will Continue to Spy on Users

  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – Google is planning to stop tracking users when they move from one page to another in order to respect users’ privacy.
  • However, a thorough study of the company’s new browsing policies reveals that the company will continue to continuously track users who browse from a cell phone.
  • Instead, Google says its ad-buying tools will use new technologies it has been developing with others in what it calls a “privacy sandbox” to target ads without collecting information about individuals from multiple websites. One such technology analyzes users’ browsing habits on their own devices, and allows advertisers to target aggregated groups of users with similar interests, or “cohorts,” rather than individual users.” Wall Street Journal said
  • Google justified its new policies in January by claiming that tracking users via mobile is much more effective than cookies.
  • The cyber giant claims that all these measures aim to provide a much safer experience for users and protect their online identity.
  • Companies have been making efforts to obtain more data from their users in order to be able to track more exhaustively the information and activity performed on the web.
  • For their part, users have not received the policies implemented by these companies very well, as they claim that most of them invade the privacy of each user and their right to choose.
  • Google assures to continue implementing policies that help to create a healthy ecosystem, where each user is respected and has the power to choose what to see or do on the web.
