Bill Partially Prohibiting Abortions Passed in Arkansas

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – Arkansas legislators voted in favor of adopting statutes that would prevent most abortions, except for those that would safeguard the life of the mother.
  • After the debate, legislators sent the Arkansas Unborn Child Protection Act to Governor Asa Hutchinson for his signature.
  • “I’ve always historically signed every pro-life bill that’s come to my desk, this one has caused some pause because it is a direct challenge to Roe v Wade,” Hutchinson said
  • Notably, the legislation does not include in its ordinances the exception for proven facts such as rape and incest that would also be part of the act.
  • That the law contemplates the right to preserve life is an indispensable element that we must offer to the citizens, said one of the leaders supporting the legislation.
  • The decree is expected to face some barriers from politicians who do not support the abortion act.
  • However, the decree in the light of the magna carta is considered as unconstitutional, so it may generate further debate in the competent bodies later on.
  • Aspects related to this environment should be studied with caution, since, what is at stake is a life and not the subjective interests of the parties involved.
