Donald Trump’s Position on U.S. Troops Criticized by Senator Lindsey Graham

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – Senator Lindsey Graham has made several criticisms through the social network Twitter, against former President Trump who has praised President Biden’s measure.
  • Trump told Biden that he thinks it is great that he is withdrawing the troops, however he was not entirely convinced with the current administration for extending the date that he himself had proposed when he was in office.
  • Graham apparently disagrees with the date Trump had proposed, and said “With all due respect to former President Trump, there is nothing ‘wonderful’ or ‘positive’ about allowing safe havens and sanctuaries for terrorists to resurface in Afghanistan or allowing Afghanistan to re-enter another civil war.”
  • Senator Graham is apparently still concerned that Afghanistan still harbors extremist rebel groups’ intent on destabilizing the region, which is why he prefers to keep the troops there longer.
  • Graham called the withdrawal plan “Biden-Trump,” envisioning a small group of troops being left behind as long as it is absolutely certain that al-Qaeda or the ISIS group cannot interfere again.
  • The senator said “We will see if ‘General’ Biden’s and ‘General’ Trump’s withdrawal strategy turns out to be sound national security policy.”
  • Currently, the senator’s position has not been entirely secure, as he has been hesitant and has even assumed that withdrawing the troops will make Afghanistan worse.
