- (General Dispatch) – Senator Cotton has proposed an 80-page report called “Defeating China: Targeted Decoupling and the Long Economic War” as the basis for Americans thinking about how to compete with the Chinese economy.
- The report seeks to encourage real intellectual strategic planning of how the US will compete against China without any weapons, it argues that the first change that must be made is structural, referring to the US federal government.
- Cotton calls for reinforcing the weaknesses of the institutions even though the Trump administration made an effort to reform them and create initiatives for their improvement.
- History can be a helper in this type of situation; Cotton refers to the National Security Act of 1947 as an example to follow being this a fundamental reform in the cold war, where the CIA and the air force were created.
- In the document there is a particular issue, he emphasizes that intellectual property theft has increased more than 1000%, causing losses to the country of billions of dollars.
- China has focused on gaining knowledge from US higher education, as well as creating 5G technology and further developing artificial intelligence. Cotton adds that the solution is to protect what is created and produced at home.
- The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that Cotton, along with 4 other progressives is seeking to convince the Carter Center to back away from the cooperation it has with the Chinese government.
- The attitude of the Republicans on this issue has been strong as they expect the Biden administration to take the necessary policies to protect the American people from any pretense of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) that is expanding its ideology around the world.
