Investigation Continues at EU Border Agency

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – According to the official report issued on the investigation of the European Union Border and Coast Guard agency, in which it was associated with the illegal rejection of migrants, no link with Frontex was found.
  • It should be noted that Frontex is responsible for monitoring and inspecting EU borders. It was accused of violating certain procedures for migrants.
  • For this reason, the policies are framed in that refugee status should be given to those who are at risk in their home country for any circumstance that threatens their integrity. Regardless of their culture.
  • Frontex is accused of being involved in acts of rejection of migrants on eight counts. However, five of them have not been fully resolved, since there are no key indications and the investigation will have to continue.
  • For his part, Frontex Executive Director Fabrice Leggeri said that he sees no valid argument for accusations of violations when expelling migrants from a given territory.
  • Specialists recommend that rapid reports be prepared to record incidents of violations so that quick action can be taken and decisions can be made accordingly.
  •  As a result of the events that have occurred, some investigators suggest that Frontex should make video recordings on its ships and aircraft after incidents have occurred to demonstrate the policies employed in carrying out these types of acts.
  • Ultimately, the investigations determine that there are no facts that effectively guarantee that the allegations are actually true. Frontex personnel must therefore be prepared for future events where they can demonstrate that their provenance is strictly outside the law.
