Republicans Calls on Biden to stop evading immigration information

  • By Ely Marquez
  • (General Dispatch) –  23 Republicans have sent a letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, asking him to show the true numbers of immigrants who have crossed the border and have been diagnosed with the virus and tested positive.
  • The letter was sent by Representative Michael Burgess, explaining that the Biden administration has changed immigration policies, apart from censoring any information at the border.
  • Only immigrants who enter the “Stay in Mexico” program have access to the covid test, yet there are a large number of undocumented immigrants who do not take the test and end up being released into the US.
  • One of the conflicts at the border is that a large number of immigrants have tested positive for the virus, yet the Border Patrol has allowed them to continue their course independently, seriously affecting U.S. citizens.
  • Republicans have complained about the reactivation of a “catch and release” program that the Biden administration reinstated. With the current pandemic situation, this may not be the best option because of further spreading the virus.
  • Mayorkas has also been asked questions about why the Center for Disease Control’s Title 42, which has helped stem the flow of illegal immigration into the U.S., has not been enforced.
  • Title 42 was implemented by the former Trump administration which is to expel every immigrant seeking asylum with the pandemic as an excuse.
  • Texas Governor Greg Abbott referenced that “Texas supports legal immigration but will not be complicit in open border policies that cause rather than prevent a humanitarian crisis in our state and endanger the lives of Texans.”
