Nigerian Drug Traffickers Operating Openly in Rome

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – Nigerian organized crime has achieved great reach in Rome after incorporating migrants from asylum centers as drug transporters.
  • Italian authorities carried out an investigation into the mode of operation of the drug trafficking organization between Rome, Albania and Nigeria.
  • During the course of the investigation, at least 55 individuals were arrested, including 27 Nigerians and 23 Albanian citizens, who were caught in the act.
  • By the way a report made in 2018 presented by the newspaper Il Giornale indicated that the organized crime group would be composed of Nigerians and Albanians, who filled the locality with drugs, obtaining profits of up to 2.5 million euros.
  • The findings also revealed that the bases for political refugees and asylum for immigrants were the recruitment centers to persuade people and point them to a better opportunity in the midst of their critical situation.
  • At the same time, one of the drug trafficking leaders lives as a refugee in one of the immigrant asylum centers to ensure recruitment.
  • The drugs come mainly from Albania, Italy and other European cities.
  • The illicit trade is not controlled by any of the authorities of the countries involved; the probabilities that more immigrants are integrated to the activities developed by the organized crime are greater.
