Amazon Says it Will Continue to Censor Books Questioning the Lgtbq+ Community

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – Amazon issued a statement in which it will not allow itself to be influenced by big leaders who force it to block or censor LGBTQ content.
  • The large Company issued a letter addressed to four Republicans, in which it explained that they cannot censor the sale of books, as there is a large LGBTQ+ community that prefers books of this type, where even they themselves come to object to the information they contain.
  • “We have chosen not to sell books that frame LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness”, amazon said.
  • The letter from amazon was made after senators had a concern after the company censored a best-selling book by conservative scholar Ryan T. Anderson on transgenderism.
  • After the “equality bill” votes were held, Amazon removed the book “When Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment” from its system, causing a matrix of opinions about the action.
  • Yet Amazon responded through the same letter that the action had nothing to do with the “equality law” or anything against the community, as they offer a wide variety of titles for readers’ consumption, saying that the company “reserves the right to not sell certain content”.
  • Amazon has focused on censoring certain titles by its own decision, on “gender dysphoria” which refers to those who are not comfortable with their biological body affecting them psychologically.
  • Anderson referred to “gender dysphoria” as a condition that can significantly affect people who suffer from it, yet he disagrees with Amazon’s decision to censor these types of titles.
  • It is therefore creating a debate as to why Amazon avoided Mr. Anderson’s publication as “The nation’s largest technology platforms are under increased scrutiny regarding the decisions they make about what content is acceptable,” said the Wall Street Journal.
