Americans Still Support Maintaining Capitol Security, Poll Shows

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – According to a survey conducted by the global intelligence company morning consult, a majority of Americans agree that the security fence at the Capitol should remain in place.
  • The company took the initiative to survey citizens following the January 6 attack on the capitol that killed five people and injured multiple others. The main question was whether they agreed to maintain security around the infrastructure.
  • After this incident the majority said that “it is necessary for the Capitol to be protected, so the security fence should remain even if this comes at the expense of public access to the Capitol.”
  • There is currently a debate over whether or not to open public access to the capitol, Republicans support it being opened again since maintaining security costs a great deal of money that comes from taxpayers.
  • On the other hand, 73% of Democrats agree that security should still be maintained, along with 51% of independents.
  • The morning poll had a 2% margin of error, with more than 1,900 respondents. It is presumed that the White House issued an order to gradually lower the security level.
  • The acting sergeant-at-arms of the House of Representatives believes that there is no logic to maintaining the security blanket when FBI investigations have not turned up any plans for another attack on the Capitol.
  • Rep. Lauren Boebert, the lawmaker criticized that this security is more for Democratic members, wasting money that could be used for other projects in the nation.
