Russia Says There is a Campaign against Sputnik V Vaccine

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – The Russian government issued a statement on a campaign by several countries to promote the rejection of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine.
  • Currently a large number of countries are in need of the vaccines, the Kremlin regrets that the media is discrediting the Sputnik V vaccine when the priority is to immunize as many of the world’s population as possible.
  • Kremlin representative Dmitry Peskov said through a press conference that the Biden administration government tried to convince the Brazilian country not to purchase the Sputnik V vaccine.
  • “We believe that there should be as many doses of vaccine as possible so that all countries, including the poorest ones, have a chance to stop the pandemic,” Peskov said at the press conference.
  • According to a report by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. (HHS) one of the goals is to prevent major powers such as China or Russia from having even greater influence in the Americas.
  • Peskov ignored when asked about the HHS report. He was objective in saying that this kind of action against Russia is “selfish” to him and the least the Kremlin wants is to involve vaccines along with politics.
  • Russia’s Sputnik V candidate vaccine was registered in August 2020 and was approved in an emergency to expedite immunization even though the results of stage III clinical trials had not been reported.
  • Then a British medical journal “the lancet” published the results of Sputnik V efficacy of 92% against the Chinese coronavirus, by now 40 countries have agreed to receive the Russian vaccine.
