EU Introduces Vaccine Passport System

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – The European Commission unveiled the “vaccine passport” system in order to open up national and international travel in summer, the certificate will be mandatory for all persons.
  • The vaccine passport also called “Digital green certificate” can be presented to the authorities through a QR code system that will have the person’s information about their health and the development of the virus before-during-after.
  • The digital green certificate can be submitted through a cell phone app or printed on paper; the EU stated that this measure will be temporary while the pandemic is being brought to an end.
  • The EU said “Our key objectives are to offer a secure, non-discriminatory and user-friendly tool that fully respects data protection. And we continue to work towards international convergence with other partners.”
  • A lot of people have complained about this measure as it may be discriminatory despite the EU saying otherwise, but some countries need the green certificate to revive their economies that depend mostly on the tourism sector.
  • Even so, there is uncertainty with this system since the European Union has had complications for the immunization of its inhabitants, which so far has only vaccinated about 10% of the population.
  • According to the European Union, these passports will be protected by software to prevent the confidential data of individuals from being breached and leaked between member states.
  • In conclusion, the system is already in place, only the approval of EU leaders and legislators is needed for it to be enforced by law.
