- (General Dispatch) – Minister Boris Johnson announced that he expects to implement a new measure where people who perform work in homes will have to accept the vaccine on a mandatory basis.
- Although the United Kingdom has been conducting immunization campaigns and the application of the vaccine for the inhabitants has been on a voluntary basis, Minister Boris made a decision in conjunction with Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
- They will change the rule that the vaccination is voluntary, and the first candidates to apply such a measure will be household employees, in order to protect the most vulnerable people.
- The Telegraph reported that “The Prime Minister and the Secretary of State [Mr. Hancock] have discussed on several occasions the progress being made to vaccinate social workers against COVID-19 and have agreed – in order to achieve a much greater safety position for care recipients – to implement legislation requiring vaccinations among the workforce.”
- Matt Hancock said that this decision even though it has not yet been approved, is necessary and is an excellent idea, because if this sector of the workforce is forced to be vaccinated the risk of affecting the elderly decreases.
- Boris is evaluating the measure even though he hopes to decrease the levels of restriction in Great Britain, this rule is necessary because some elderly people cannot be vaccinated.
- The minister apologized for that population that may get angry, “I strongly urge people to take the vaccine, but it is not part of our culture or our ambition in this country to make vaccinations compulsory. That’s not how we do things.”
