Pope Francis Califies Iraqi Christians as Martyrs

  • By John Delorian
  • (General Dispatch) – Through a video Pope Francis sent an emotional message to the Iraqi people, as a prelude to his trip to Iraq where the pilgrim of peace is heading this weekend.
  • “In a few days, I will finally be among you!” were the words announced by the leader of the Catholic Church, who expressed the deep desire to meet the parishioners who live in this country, as well as to know the cultural manifestations of the nation.
  • The aspiration of his holiness is to implore the Lord for remission and reconciliation after a great number of years submerged in wars and terrorism.
  • Without distinction of race or creed, his purpose is to promote fraternity and solidarity among the Iraqi people.
  • The Supreme Pontiff pointed out the Christian brothers and sisters who, despite the difficult times they have had to go through, have maintained the testimony of faith in Christ, for which he said he felt privileged to meet with a church of martyrs.
  • He also gave words of encouragement to the people of Iraq to continue moving forward, making reference to some biblical passages that represent historical facts of overcoming.
  • Therefore, he made it known that although this land is quite wounded, it is a blessed land that they have to keep hope in God.
  • He also asked the people to keep him in their prayers and that he looks forward to meeting with all his people in the coming days, to continue walking united in hope.
