  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – On Wednesday, pharmacies in Greece were stocked with kits for self-administered covid-19 tests as a defense mechanism to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
  • Health authorities have sponsored rapid tests that teachers and students can administer from the comfort of their homes to find out whether or not they are carriers of the virus.
  • This policy was suggested to encourage a return to the classroom for high school students, who have been deprived of their right to education since last year.
  • The measure aims to prevent the number of coronavirus infections, while at the same time trying to prevent hospital centers from collapsing once again.
  • In retrospect, Greece has only begun a slight easing of restrictive measures in recent days, as blockades of various commercial activities are still regulated by law.
  • At present, Greece has recorded 4,309 infections and 8,607 deaths due to covid-19 in recent weeks.
  • Of course the governments with the help of health specialists are alert to the spread of infections; however, they have called for classes to try to return to normality.
  • Vassilis Kontozamanis, Minister of Health, indicated that self-administered covid-19 test kits will begin to be distributed this Thursday and that residents should be tested twice a week.
