Italian Government to try to Generate Income Through the Tourism Sector

  • (General Dispatch) – The Italian government is evaluating what date to set for the opening of the tourism sector after being subjected to severe restrictions due to the coronavirus.
  • The tourism sector for Italy has been one of the main sources of income for the nation, for this reason they expect the participation of a large number of tourists this year, a possible date is expected to be June 2.
  • Prime Minister Mario Draghi said he expects it to be opened in May, but they will have to evaluate the data, the way the virus has developed, which areas were the most affected and thus know what measures to take.
  • Some entertainment venues may be open in the evenings, as there will be others that will only be open during certain hours, and they will need to use essential biosecurity measures such as the use of masks.
  • Tourism Minister Massimo Garavaglia said that in the European Union was implemented a “green pass” identifying the status that has the person with the virus; through it will be able to allow access to different sites.
  • “Last year we did not know what we were facing; this time we have experience and a vaccination plan that is moving forward “ said Garavaglia, after Italy was one of the nations of the European bloc with the highest number of infections.
  • Rome, one of the most visited cities by tourists, went from having 300,000 visitors to only 1,000; a drop of more than 100 percent, the restrictions left Italy in a negative situation for its economy.
