UK Takes its Immunization Plan with Caution

  • By Ely Márquez
  • (General Dispatch) – UK Health Minister Matt Hancock has spoken out after a message from University College London (UCL) that immunity for all inhabitants will be achieved in the short term.
  • The university said that herd immunity would be achieved on April 12 through the UK’s Daily Telegraph media, assuming that having 73% of the population vaccinated would be their message.
  • University professor Karl Friston said he was surprised by the university’s message, but explained that the vaccination campaign has been a success, and possibly passing 70% of the population could achieve what the London college claims.
  • The data has shown that 50% of the adult population has been vaccinated, 10% have achieved immunity and 42% have suffered from the coronavirus, if the vaccination rate is maintained, hopefully the target will be reached.
  • The British government has been gradually easing restrictions on the coronavirus, as outlined in Boris Johnson’s agenda, but still warns that biosecurity measures should be maintained.
  • Health Minister Hancock advised the British community not to believe the pronouncements made by scientists for now, and urged to keep to the agreed agenda as it has been implemented.
  •  “Some scientists told me we were going to have herd immunity in May and then June and then… What I prefer to do is look at the data. We have established the roadmap, the roadmap is really clear. It’s our route back to normalcy. We’re on track to meet the roadmap and that’s our goal,” Hancock said.
  • Hancock said that although a successful return to freedom is predicted, it should be done with caution, restrictions will be removed in stages, for now the first has been the opening of pubs and gardens so that Britons can engage in outdoor activities.
