“Border is Open” says White House in Misleading Message

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) –  In a press conference held at the White House, National Security Advisor Roberta Jacobson made a mistake in a message saying that the southern border was open.
  • During the conference Roberta Jacobson said what was in a note passed to her by one of the White House aides, she said it in Spanish “the border is not closed”, then she realized she had made the mistake and apologized.
  • One of the journalists asked White House Secretary Jen Psaki about the mistake, if perhaps it was the note that was misspelled, but the mistake was Jacobson’s, who said it wrong. The journalist even said that immigrants could pay attention to that mistake.
  • Secretary Psaki responded to the reporter’s comment, “Well, given that she also said that the border is closed, we’re hopeful that that’s what will be picked up. And that’s been our message clearly and consistently.”
  • Jacobson said that sometimes these kinds of mistakes are often made at White House conferences, yet she told immigrants not to undertake the journey as it can be very dangerous and no welcoming options are given.
  • Jacobson wanted to blame “hope” and did not mean that the Biden administration had anything to do with the incredible increase of immigrants trying to cross the border on a daily basis.
  • At the same time he said that the Biden administration will try to reach different agreements with the governments of Central America to improve the quality of life of the people, and thus avoid this type of migratory problems.
  • “The president has committed to seek $4 billion over four years to address the root causes of migration,” Jacobson said.
