China Increases Corn Imports from the U.S.

  • By Ely Marquez
  • (General Dispatch) –    According to information provided by the Chinese press, the United States is the main supplier of corn to China.
  • The increase in corn demand in China is due to the fact that pork is one of the main products consumed in the region. Therefore, these animals are fed with corn-based feed.
  • It should be noted that the increase in corn prices in China is driven by the arrival of swine flu from Africa, which affected the agricultural sector and turned the US into its commercial ally.
  • It is important to highlight that the United States supplies 70% of the total corn imports requested by China in order to manufacture feed for pigs.
  • In the meantime, the reserves accumulated by the Chinese Communist Party have been exhausted, and government officials are trying to implement incentive actions to replant the crops.
  • Everything seems to indicate that the Chinese soil is highly contaminated, and that for this reason the crops have not prospered, the agricultural agencies are trying to solve the situation, although officially it has not been communicated.
  • Of course, the arrival of the coronavirus has further affected corn production in the Asian country, contracting the supply curve of the highest pork production system on the planet.
  • Meanwhile, the United States will continue to supply the Chinese market in the coming months, since, in the medium term, China will not be able to produce enough corn to meet the region’s demand.
