Travel Industry Companies Refuse Vaccine Passport in the UK

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – A number of companies and venues that offer services for tourists and the British community sent a statement to the government refusing to enforce the vaccine passport measure.
  • The statement was presented through the media outlet The telegraph said that despite the government’s approval, they will not require customers to present the document to make use of the service.
  • “We are event promoters and licensed venues in the UK who have struggled through this difficult time for everyone. We have no political interest and many of us feel that the launch of the vaccine has been tremendous. We also know that, for many reasons, some will not have a vaccine,” the statement said.
  • The shop owners have called it “absurd” to be required to passport vaccines after Minister Boris Johnson has claimed excellent results with the immunization campaign.
  • However, they stated that they cannot take the measure as it would have negative results since tourists may see this action as discriminatory, apart from violating the privacy of customers.
  • This issue will remain under debate as the government does not clearly inform the measures, and the ministers contradict each other, yet the companies are determined in the measure taken.
  • The Minister of Vaccines, Nadhim Zahawi, informed that in November, although the government does not specify that it is mandatory, they will have to require the document and a digital pass through an APP.
  • Weeks later, Minister Zahawi said that the government may not implement the Vaccine passport measure, generating confusion in society, so a definitive answer is expected.
