Milan School Does Not Allow Ramadan Fasting for Muslim Students

  • (General Dispatch) – An association of teachers and the authorities of an educational institute in Milan have chosen to prohibit Muslim students from fasting in order to enforce Ramadan.
  • Ramadan begins on April 13, is a religious practice that lasts a month, Muslims must keep fasting until the sun goes down in the west, while this happens they cannot eat, drink, smoke or have sex.
  • Ermanno Olmi, the dean in charge of three educational institutes in Milan, expressed concern because he had received reports of several cases of students fainting since the practice began.
  • Olmi said that he has nothing against the Muslim religion, but the health of students is a priority for them, so he supports the implementation of measures to prevent them from doing so at least within the educational facilities.
  • According to the newspaper Il Giornale reported that such decisions generated controversy with the representatives of the students, they said that the institution cannot pass over the authority that they exercise over their children.
  • Davide Piccardo, coordinator of a Muslim association in Milan, said that this type of oppression is comparable to that exercised by China against the Uighur ethnic minority in the Xinjiang region.
  • The CCP in 2020 has called this practice extremist, so it has banned it and those who attempt to violate the measure will be subjected to various crimes in addition to being sent to prison.
