United States Expels Russian Diplomats and Imposes Sanctions on the Country

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – This Thursday, the White House announced that ten Russian diplomats must leave the country, while new sanctions are imposed against companies and individuals in Russia, for their alleged collaboration with the Kremlin.
  • The main accusations point to the Kremlin as interfering in the 2020 presidential election, and the hacking of federal agencies.
  • Initially, the sanctions will prevent Moscow from borrowing money because the country’s financial institutions are prohibited from buying bonds from Russia.
  • Everything seems to indicate that computer experts have introduced software infections through very suspicious mechanisms and maneuvers, facts on which the Biden administration based itself to issue the sanctions.
  • The sanctions also include restrictive measures for six cyber companies that supported the alleged election boycott attempts last year.
  • It can be noted that the sanctions seek to make Russia provide an explanation for the actions taken, which are considered by the United States as inappropriate.
  • Despite all the accusations Joe Biden’s administration still maintains a firm stance on strengthening diplomatic ties with Russia. Moscow doesn’t seem to be interested, though.
  • Russia is expected to issue a statement on the matter after the White House decision was made known in the morning hours.
