German Courts Limit Protests Against Covid Restrictions

  • By Anton Grillo
  • (General Dispatch) – Regional courts in Germany have issued an order to limit all protests that are against the restrictions imposed by the government to deal with the coronavirus.
  • The ruling was made last week, the Administrative Court of Bavaria, ordered that demonstrations should be banned as long as they are on the subject of the covid 19 blockade.
  • The Higher Administrative Court of Saxony applied the same order, claiming that by holding this type of protest, demonstrators may be at risk of being infected by covid-19.
  • The court, located in the city of Dresden, prevented the right-wing populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party from holding the protest after it had planned to take to the streets.
  • Germany’s intelligence authorities had to act, as one group disagrees with the blockades by covid-19, and have influenced large numbers of people.
  • The Querdenker anti-blockade movement has mobilized around 20000 thousand followers through the networks, promoting a hatred against the restrictions, for that reason the authorities have pointed them out as an “Extremist group”.
  • The movement has been an alert since they mobilized a protest in November last year at the landmark Brandenburg Gate in the German capital, where force had to be used with riot gear to calm tensions.
  • “We cannot expect people to be very restrictive in their private lives while at the same time others are disobeying all the rules at the coronavirus demonstrations” said German Justice Minister Christine Lambrecht in order to use more force against the protesters.
