Attorney for Derek Chauvin to Take Defendant’s Ruling to U.S. Supreme Court

  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – Defense attorney Alan Dershowitz said Tuesday that the conviction of former Minnesota police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd should be overturned on appeal.
  • Dershowitz claims that the jury deliberating Chauvin’s case received outside pressure, as evidenced by the conduct of Maxine Waters who urged violence if the defendant was not found guilty.
  • Although Derek’s actions are morally unforgivable, the verdict is questioned by many, in which intimidation and threats were implicit, said the lawyer.
  • In the first instance, he will seek to appeal the decision to the jury room to reconsider the ruling at the state level, accepting the facts of racial discrimination.
  • If a favorable response is not forthcoming, Dershowitz “will go to the U.S. Supreme Court, which had the best chance of overturning the conviction based on the judge’s own reaction to Waters’ comments.”
  • Although the defense attorney admits his defendant’s guilt, he states the possible motives that led the court to hand down such a substantial sanction.
  • Similarly, the president of the United States seemed to affirm that the jury was receiving a very strong social pressure, because of the scandal caused by the murder.
  • But, it will be in the coming days that further details of the litigation that continues on the part of the defendant in search of a fairer sentence will be released.
