U.S. Troops to Remain in Afghanistan

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) – The Biden administration has delayed the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan planned for September 11, but the head of the Pentagon’s Central Command is proposing a new measure.
  • Apparently a small group of troops will be left behind to maintain a balance while the situation in the region normalizes, the Pentagon chief said.
  • General Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr. issued a statement affirming that the Pentagon has planned a strategy so that terrorist groups do not attempt to carry out any violent acts despite the lack of a total troop presence.
  • These messages are also associated with U.S. Secretary Antony Blinken, who made known his position on the security of the Afghan country, as troops are gradually being withdrawn.
  • However former President Trump had managed to reach an agreement with the Taliban to avoid unnecessary bloodshed on the condition that troops in their entirety would not be in the country from May 1.
  • A date that the Biden administration missed, the president said that certain changes still need to be met before the troops can come home, however McKenzie said otherwise, the troops will be moved to other locations as needed.
  • “USCENTCOM remains steadfast in support of ongoing interagency and diplomatic efforts to achieve a negotiated political settlement, and is committed to working with our regional partners to ensure our ability to counter a potential resurgence of terrorist threats against the homeland” said the report made by McKenzie.
  • On the other hand, one of the options put forward by the Pentagon is to move troops to countries neighboring Afghanistan, a possibly viable option in the case of India, which has good relations with the US.
