Old Age and Senile Dementia Increase Risk of Death from Coronavirus in Elderly People

  • (General Dispatch) – A recent study conducted by JAMA Network Open indicated that elderly households over 90 years of age are up to three times more likely to die from the coronavirus than adults between the ages of 65 and 70. 
  • The study was able to determine that those seniors diagnosed with senile dementia, regardless of age, have a 90% risk of dying from complications.
  • Interestingly, the research indicated that those elderly infected with covid-19 who had senile dementia had greater complications from their pathology.
  • As a consequence, 80% of the people who died in 2020 due to the virus infection in the United States had an average age of 65 years.
  • At the same time, the adult population with this pathology who died last year from covid-19 was 22% of the total population.
  • “Of the nursing home residents included in the analysis, 28% tested positive for the virus and 21% required hospital treatment.”
  • Psychologically, the studies revealed that not being aware of the situation experienced due to forgetfulness caused greater stress on the organisms of older adults.
  • Definitely, the affections have a considerable impact on the contagion of the Chinese coronavirus, due to the low defense capacities of the organism to resist the effects of the virus.
