- Ursula said that these actions will continue, just as the Italian government blocked vaccines destined for Australia, all in order to ensure that the pharmaceutical companies comply with the contracts.
- Von der Leyen has had problems with the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca because the production it has carried out is not in accordance with what was planned in the contract, according to the pharmaceutical company, which said that they have had problems in the laboratories where the vaccine is produced.
- However, Astrazeneca had sent a large batch to Australia, creating annoyance in the EU, where they argued that the pharmaceutical company is giving priority to other countries, when the population of Europe has only a small percentage of immunized people.
- The president of the EU has blamed the UK for separating from the EU, further complicating the situation, while the pharmaceutical company has said that the EU had made the contract three months later, unlike the countries that are receiving the doses.
- There is a media dispute where the EU says that the UK had implemented a system to block exports of the vaccines, but the British government claimed that these accusations are false.
- The immunization process in Europe has been very slow compared to the UK, and citizens and other media have criticized the EU for not planning well. By this month a large part of the population should be immunized.
- The Eurozone is predicted to be going through a difficult economic situation according to an OECD think tank concluding that “Slow progress in vaccine launch and the emergence of new virus mutations resistant to existing vaccines result in a weaker recovery, higher job losses and more business failures.”
