Authorities in Greece Detain Teacher for Failing to Present Vaccination Certificate

  • (General Dispatch) – A teacher on the island of Andros was arrested by the authorities on April 20 for failing to present a vaccination certificate and to check whether she was “negative” in the test.
  • However, the authorities arrested six more people for refusing to comply with measures imposed by the Greek government to try to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
  • The media outlet Proto Thema reported that a considerable number of citizens have been fined, the authorities have handed out around 290,000 €, including sanctioning party organizers for 3000 €.
  • The authorities started an operation with more than 80,000 controls to find those people who were not being tested and to identify whether they had the virus or not.
  • Although the new government regulation was applied recently, it had already been announced that civil servants must comply with the measures proposed by the government, in order to reduce the cases of covid 19.
  • The measure will also include those workers who perform their activities in public transportation, hairdressers, supermarkets, food stores, among others.
  • Those workers who are caught by the authorities, and are found not to be performing and declaring the weekly covid test may be fined € 500 and employers with a fine of € 1500.
  • Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said that no lax measures can be applied, as he wants to relax restrictions to revive the tourism sector and revive the economy, which was severely affected by the pandemic.
