United Kingdom is on the Verge of Opening up its Economy away from the European Union

  • (General Dispatch) – The government of the United Kingdom, after having separated from the European bloc, has begun to make major trade agreements with different countries in less than a year.
  • The international trade secretary has spoken out about new negotiations that have been underway since last year with the world’s third largest economy (Japan), and is evaluating whether to opt for free trade with Australia and strengthen trade ties with New Zealand.
  • Since the United Kingdom requested in January of this year the inclusion to the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), it has generated a favorable commercial forecast, increasing the economic activity with different nations.
  • The Telegraph reported that trade secretary Liz Truss said that these long-term strategies will help the economy despite the major constraints in the pandemic.
  • Lis Truss said, “That part of the world is growing very fast. One of our strategic ambitions is to reach beyond Europe and trade more with the fastest growing parts of the world.”
  • The secretary said that if the country’s membership in the CPTPP is achieved, the second step is for Australia to make the decision, so that the two countries can begin free trade, but the possible date of negotiation will be in June at the G7 summit.
  • On the other hand Nigel Farage has criticized the management of the Conservatives for not making agreements with former President Donald Trump who supported the Brexit, now the current administration of Biden has not been pronounced to achieve some kind of trade agreement.
  • The CPTPP also called TPP-11 is the agreement between several Pacific countries with free trade agreements; it is currently made up of 11 nations among these: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore and Vietnam.
