- (General Dispatch) – The head of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), Richard Moore, said that they will start spying on other countries in order to verify if they comply with climate change commitments.
- Currently nations are promoting agreements to try to save the planet, for this reason the chief Moore said he will focus on those countries that emit the most pollution in the world.
- Moore said through the media outlet The Telegraph “that our job is to shine a light where people might not want it to shine and clearly we are going to support what is the most important international foreign policy agenda. Issue for this country and for the planet, which is around the climate emergency, and of course we have a role in that space.”
- The chief said that perhaps it is the responsibility of the intelligence service to assume oversight, since most agreements remain only words, while the planet continues to suffer the consequences of human beings.
- The release of this message comes as the government prepares to attend the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 26 in Glasgow, Scotland, in November.
- The presidents of those most industrialized countries have taken on an ambitious target, in the case of Biden pledged to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030; Minister Boris Johnson said he would reduce by 68% by 2030 and then 78% by 2035.
- Johnson is expected to begin strengthening relations with Biden at the G7 summit in Cornwall, England, in June, one of the main topics being the development of green energy, as well as discussing what position China will take to reduce major emissions.
- On the other hand, the financing of Western countries for the creation of infrastructures in the Third World, which comply with the regulations from the outset and thus prevent further increase in environmental pollution, will be discussed.
