Protests Continue in Minnesota Over Death of Daunte Wright

  • By Anton Grillo
  • (General Dispatch) – Protests in Minnesota have been going on for three consecutive days after police officers in Brooklyn Center killed African-American Daunte Wright.
  • So far state media reported that 60 people have been arrested, following a march to the police station attended by about 800 protesters.
  • Matt Langer, chief of the Minnesota State Patrol, said they had to act by arresting some people after they started throwing objects such as bricks, bottles, among others at the officers who had a fence around the station.
  • Langer took some photos and videos and uploaded them through the social network twitter, on the station’s account to show that they were not lying about the violent manner in which the protesters have attacked the officials.
  • In the face of such action, an attempt was made to disperse the protesters with anti-riot measures, so they had to use force to try to calm the tension and try to avoid further destruction as happened in the first protest.
  • Wright’s death is being investigated after Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly Porter opened fire on the man of African descent after he was given the stop sign and ignored warnings.
  • According to Wright, he had a warrant for an armed robbery, and he was supposed to appear in court, a measure that he did not comply with and for that reason his arrest was requested, as reported by Fox News.
  • The tour of the protesters began at 4pm visiting first the FBI facility and then ending at the police headquarters, and although a curfew had been implemented, the protesters remained until the night when the conflict with military and police officials began.
