- (General Dispatch) – The media New Delhi AP has reported the serious situation that India is witnessing with an accelerated increase of infectious cases of covid-19, so far 320000 have been registered.
- With this announced figure India is positioned behind the USA, with 17.6 million cases of covid-19 since the pandemic was announced, it has been the nation with the highest number of cases in just one day.
- The Ministry of Health has so far reported a death toll of 2,771 in the last 24 hours, and the numbers are expected to continue to rise, even cremation facilities have had difficulties working at maximum capacity.
- Foreign Ministry representative Arindam Bagchi said that foreign aid is on its way, for now the UK has sent 100 ventilators and 95 oxygen concentrators.
- India is awaiting further contributions from other nations such as the US, Germany, Israel and Pakistan who have promised to send oxygen tanks, treatment and protective equipment.
- The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, spoke out and said that the situation is “heartbreaking”, although the government had announced that the measures were being effective, the reality has been different.
- The hospital centers do not have the capacity for the number of people that are being admitted, the oxygen equipment is not enough, the health workers are doing their best to keep up despite their fatigue.
- Studies have affirmed that this new wave of contagions that India is witnessing is due to a new variant of the virus that is highly contagious, health institutions are advising people to use biosecurity measures even at home.
