Fourth Consecutive Day of Protests Over Daunte Wright’s Death in Minnesota

  • By Ely Márquez
  • (General Dispatch) – Protests are still going on outside the Brooklyn Center in Minnesota, for the fourth day in a row after a curfew was announced.
  • It has been reported that on the fourth day about 24 people have been arrested among them active members of Black Lives Matter, Antifa and some activists, in defense for the death of 20-year-old African descendant Daunte Wright.
  • Although Democratic Governor Tim Walz tried to lower tensions by saying that investigations are underway to clarify why the police officer opened fire on Wright.
  • The only theory so far is that Wright did not comply with the officers’ orders when they tried to arrest her, apparently Wright had a court order for failing to appear in court previously.
  • The group of protesters demonstrated an hour before curfew, to keep the demonstration going, alleging that police forces carry out greater acts of violence against black people or people of color.
  • Governor Tim Walz has had to surround the police institution with military officers, after previous days the protesters had destroyed police cars.
  • Although state media reported that this protest was calmer than previous ones, protesters remained hostile to the officers.
  • For now, the groups defending Wraight said they will maintain the protests if Minnesota authorities, such as Democratic Governor Tim, do not issue a solution to this type of incident.
