Afghan war Still Going on Under Biden Administration

  • By William Silgueiro
  • (General Dispatch) –  President Biden is still in the process of withdrawing troops after the Trump administration had imposed a withdrawal date, but it appears that Afghanistan’s longest war will still be ongoing.
  • The former Trump administration had reached an agreement with jihadist groups to withdraw troops by May, provided they cease attacks on U.S. troops and cut off any communication with Al-Qaeda.
  • President Biden is still in negotiations with the Taliban and the Pakistani government to cease any attacks in Afghanistan, said Ned Price, a State Department representative.
  • “This was in many ways the goal of the last administration. This is the goal that we continue to work toward today,” said Ned Price.
  • In an interview, the media emphasized a letter from Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, where a plan was being devised to end the war.
  • The media obtained a copy of the letter which stated that the “United States has not ruled out any options. We are considering full withdrawal of our forces by May 1 as we consider other options.”
  • Blinken also warned the Afghan president that he will have to deal with possible attacks by the extremist group if Ghani does not support the peace process more quickly.
  • The decision of the Biden administration on the date of withdrawal of troops is still pending, but this commitment does not depend only on the US, the Taliban groups must cut ties with Al-Qaeda and avoid any act of violence against US troops.
