Pope Francis Calls for a Stop to Gun Distribution
- By Wayne Rodrigo
- (General Dispatch) – The leader of the Catholic Church on Wednesday delivered a message of awareness to nations that manufacture and distribute weapons to terrorists, calling the actions of war a “monster”.
- When he arrived back at the Vatican, His Holiness said, “The Iraqi people have the right to live in peace; they have the right to rediscover the dignity that belongs to them.”
- In the same way, the pontiff stressed that Baghdad is a city with cultural and religious roots that for years has set an example of civilization.
- He also pointed out that war has been the driving force behind the unfavorable changes that have caused hatred and division between brothers, devouring the world.
- Simultaneously, His Holiness asked the most important question: who sells weapons to terrorists? Those who use them are as guilty as those who manufacture and distribute them.
- Devastating is the damage caused by wars around the world, taking human lives, and countless conflicts of interest where weapons are the answer.
- Humanity needs a change of mentality, the Holy Father said, referring that this is the only change that can bring about the cessation of war.
- To conclude, the Pope asked an open question calling the whole world to conscience, indicating that when will humanity be capable of generating fraternity among brothers and sisters?
