  • By Wayne Rodrigo
  • (General Dispatch) – The issue of vaccine exports has been the talk of the town at the moment, after the United Kingdom’s departure from the EU has further aggravated the situation with Brussels.

  • On March 9, Charles Michel, the president of the European Council, said that Britain “imposed an absolute ban on the export of vaccines”, while the EU can block exports of vaccines to various countries in Europe or to non-member countries.
  • A representative of the European Union issued an apology through the media outlet the guardian “We know that different countries have implemented different measures, that does not refer to vaccines, as far as we understand, coming from the UK,” the representative said.
  • The minister Boris Johnson pronounced himself before the accusations that do not have any basis of information to substantiate it; Great Britain is supporting both its country and the world for a recovery from this serious pandemic, without having the need to block vaccines to other countries.
  • In addition, Boris Johnson announced that Britain has contributed £548 million to the international Covax program.
  • The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, said that blockades will continue to be carried out if and when necessary, she affirmed that the pharmaceutical companies must comply with the contracts, and will act again as Italy did by blocking 250,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine destined for Australia.
