  • (General Dispatch) –  A 54-year-old woman was doused with gasoline and subsequently set on fire by an unknown individual; the incident took place on a bus while it was traveling through Seine-Saint-Denis.
  • The violent act was carried out at 7:20pm, with no explanation; also the driver and his partner were injured. The prosecutor’s office started an investigation for attempted homicide.
  • The 41 year old attacker was captured and placed at the order of the prosecutor’s office, to issue a verdict; no report has yet been released to determine what incited him to carry out the attack on the woman.
  • The woman was rushed to a health center where she was diagnosed with severe burns to her scalp and part of her neck, but is not in critical condition.
  • A minor witness described the incident: “There were big flames on the bus. It smelled like something burned. A man was shouting: ‘Stop! Stop!’ It was very shocking.”
  • The mayor of Noisy-le-Sec, Olivier Sarrabeyrouse, a member of the French Communist Party (PCF) was appalled at the wave of violence and the scale that is occurring in the forbidden suburbs.
  • The forbidden suburbs have been areas of innumerable acts of vandalism and attempted murders, the majority of their population are immigrants living under conditions of poverty, delinquency, school failure, gang wars, and xenophobia. So far the government’s solution has been to repress the acts with the police authorities.
