Britain Anticipates Police State Autocracy

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – Britain’s parliament will pass a bill that curtails the right of citizens to protest, the legislation is seen as a police state autocracy.
  • The legislation to be voted on is called the “Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill”. It is described by one of the deputies as “an important step on the road to authoritarianism and the suppression of dissent”.
  • The purpose of the bill is focused on preventing the various demonstrations that at some point in history have caused considerable damage to people and material assets of the nation.
  • Within this order of ideas, the measures are framed in a much stricter context for both inhabitants and tourists.  It seeks to guarantee the nation’s security.
  • Many senators may oppose the approval of the bill; however, it seeks to prevent considerable damages to the nation’s patrimony from occurring in future protests.
  • In short, citizens are terrified by the size of the bill, which completely curtails the freedom to express oneself.
  • Other specialists consider that measures should be taken to punish individuals who incur in serious illegal acts, for which sanctions should be applied, but not to restrict the right to express oneself in general.
  • However, the right should not be granted to police officers or the Minister of the Interior to determine who commits illegal acts and who does not. It is a matter of preventing the constitutional right to express oneself and it would amount to a state of tyranny.
