Children with Covid Are Strapped to Their Beds in Hong Kong

  • By Ely Marquez
  • (General Dispatch) – Health authorities in Hong Kong took a new isolation measure for minors, tying them to public hospital beds for their “safety” to prevent the spread of the virus.
  • “Generally speaking, the hospital will only consider the application of physical restraint on pediatric patients for the safety and well-being of the patient,” hospital authorities said.
  • The institute in charge of Health in Hong Kong said that when a minor patient is positive for COVID 19, the procedure is to isolate him totally, neither his parents will be able to attend him and to avoid any disobedience they are tied to the beds.
  • The measure made the parents decide, if they tested positive for the coronavirus, they could accept isolation with their children, otherwise they had the option of sending them alone to the hospital while they recovered.
  • One of the nurses at the hospitals said that the staff could not care for large numbers of children, and in order to help with their needs they have opted to put them in diapers, regardless of age.
  • The administrative region of Hong Kong has been one of the areas affected by the coronavirus with more than 7 million inhabitants with around 10 thousand cases and 200 deaths. The measures have been radical and the authorities do not allow the inhabitants to leave their homes unless they test negative for COVID 19.
  • Residents have remained in a state of frustration as their way of life has been damaged by the radical measures put in place by the government.
  • On the other hand, it is hoped that such measures will improve, as it may harm the mental and physical state of minors, such as symptoms of stress and anxiety.
