Japanese Court Subjects Same-Sex Marriage to Consideration

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – For the first time in the country’s history, a court has held that the nation’s constitution should provide for same-sex marriage.
  • Accordingly, this would be “a moral victory” that could strengthen legislative efforts by providing a great outreach to Japanese citizens. The court said.
  • The legislation would grant the same benefits contemplated for heterosexual couples to couples who enter into a same-sex union.
  • It can be inferred that the constitutional argument can be found in Article 14 of the Constitution, which clearly states that discrimination “on the basis of race, creed, sex, social status or family origin” is prohibited.
  • Subsequently, this consideration obeys multiple efforts that people subjected to social discrimination because of their sexual preferences have built for years, and that today are heard by the parliament.
  • In that sense, the government concluded that it does not agree with the decision, its objective is to seek a more tolerant society.
  • It is convenient that the ruling has an impact on the society that needs to make a transcendental change. Expressed one of the supporters outside the palace.
  • Finally, they anxiously await the debate that will take place in parliament and that will grant constitutional rights to same-sex couples in their constant struggle to occupy a respectable place in society.
