State of Ohio Seeks to Block Vaccine Passports

  • By Joergen Haisem
  • (General Dispatch) – Republicans in Ohio are considering introducing a law in order to avoid requiring a vaccination passport, which is a requirement that will be essential to allow people to use a good or service.
  • State Representative Al Cutrona announced that this measure may be overkill for Ohio, saying that the state is not like New York, which is why he sees no need for this law to be implemented.
  • New York has been the first state in the U.S. to implement the “vaccine passport” or so-called “Excelsior Pass” where residents will be able to show their status about the virus through their mobile devices by a QR code.
  • Cutrona said that if Ohioans are willing to get vaccinated voluntarily, there is no need to apply the same Excelsior pass measures as applied in another state.
  • Rep. Cutrona said “We have had restrictions on our freedoms for over a year and more restrictions or mandates are not the answer to all the problems related to COVID-19.”
  • Rep. Loychik supports the bill to prevent the Excelsior pass; he said that what this measure could cause is discriminatory attitudes in society aside from further slowing down the economy in the nation.
  • Cutrona said that this vaccine passport has other intentions, and that is to violate the privacy of people, giving out the medical status, even though they say they can guarantee security, it is information that can be leaked.
  • Ohio may definitely be one of the states where the Vaccine Passport will not be implemented, but for now we will have to wait for the approval of the law.
