- (General Dispatch) – A woman sued the tech giant after being a victim of sexual exploitation, the woman kept her identity anonymous for security reasons claiming that she met a sexual predator through Facebook.
- The female, who was 15 years old at the time, reported that she had accepted a friend request from a man who was looking for models for a job, offering her $2000 a week.
- The woman began chatting with the man, who turned out to be a sex trafficker using a fake account, managed to dissuade her to agree to a casting which she did in a hotel in a bathing suit.
- However, the woman saw that the man was acting suspiciously, so she told him that she didn’t want to do the job anymore and wanted to go home.
- The man prevented her from getting dressed and physically assaulted her by forcing her to have sex with him; the sex trafficker took some nude photos of her, and published them on a website Backpage.com.
- A website that was taken down by federal agencies after they investigated them and discovered that there was a wide network of buying and selling sexual content.
- The sex trafficker held the woman hostage for 24 hours and from that moment began to offer her through the website, where another individual agreed to move to the hotel and rape her.
- Fortunately, the woman managed to make a cell phone call without the trafficker noticing, alerting the authorities, who managed to catch the trafficker and the individual who raped her.
- The woman is currently 24 years old and issued the lawsuit that will be discussed in the US Supreme Court, however Facebook has had other similar lawsuits, since it does not have a security that actually protects minors who may be potential victims of sexual predators.
