Pandemic Stress has Affected Dental Health in the U.S.

  • (General Dispatch) – The American Dental Association (ADA) has conducted an investigation into how the pandemic situation has come to affect citizens after facing government-imposed lockdowns.
  • Ada released a report on the research, which found that many people witnessed dental problems such as chipped or cracked teeth, as they have been under constant stress due to the lockdown.
  • Apart from symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ), which are specifically chewing problems, facial pain, ear pain, headache, jaw pain, among others.
  • ADA Scientific Director Marcelo Araujo recommended that “It is more important than ever for people to maintain their dental health, including visiting the dentist regularly to address any problems that may have a long-term impact.”
  • According to a survey of 2300 dentist’s state that last year 2020 there were about 60% of dental problems resulting from stress, but in 2021 there was a 10% increase over last year.
  • The chief economist and vice president of the ADA Health Policy Institute, Marko Vujicic, stated that this study can help give an index of how stress has come to affect the health of citizens.
  • Some nations have even suspended dental services, increasing oral health problems, and one vulnerable sector has been minors due to the lack of control.
  • However, Americans are suffering from other types of health problems and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) associates these health complications with psychological difficulties, the idea of committing suicide has increased considerably in individuals.
