Demonstrations in Support of Uyghur Ethnic Group Continue in the U.S.

  • By Jennifer Prill
  • (General Dispatch) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) held a peaceful demonstration where council members supported ethnic Uyghur complaints against the Chinese embassy in Washington.
  • A youth group attempted to raise its voice against the Chinese communist party who has carried out crimes against humanity in the Xinjiang region on ethnic Uyghur minority groups and some Turks.
  • The hashtag of the demonstration was #CallItGenocide, making known that the CCP has created concentration camps in the region with the excuse of being used to teach Chinese culture to the most needy ethnic groups.
  • Cair said that the objective is to create awareness in people, and to try that the Biden administration together with the international community can apply the necessary sanctions against the CCP.
  • On the other hand, it has been shown that the different ethnic groups in Xinjiang are being forced to work for cotton production, an issue that generated controversy when large multinationals in support of the Uyghurs stopped trading the raw material with China.
  • Now going forward The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act would create a “rebuttable presumption” that all products manufactured in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) are made with forced labor and are banned from entry into the United States unless proven otherwise from “clear and convincing” evidence
  • Xinjiang is producing 85% of China’s cotton and 20% of the world’s production, but the new sanctions imposed against the region have angered the Asian country, leading to protests against multinational companies.
  • Nihad Awad, executive director and co-founder of CAIR, said that the mistreatment of the ethnic group is inhumane; the physical and psychological damage suffered by the Uyghurs for having a different belief is not fair and should be punished by the international community.
