No Police Force was Applied in the Sarah Everard Stakeout

  • By John Deloria
  • (General Dispatch) – According to the London AP, a security agency said that at no time did police officers take any action to interfere with Sara Everard’s vigil.
  • Matt Parr, police inspector said that the attitude of the people were somewhat defiant yet the police authorities stood by until they had to use force when the vigil got out of control.
  • Such uprisings began following the death of the 33-year-old London woman, who was abducted and killed apparently at the hands of a police officer.
  • Large numbers of people gathered on March 13 to say their final goodbyes to Sarah Everard, but strong protests began to be held against the abuses being witnessed by girls and women in the nation.
  • Matt said that it is a complex issue since the accused is a police officer, apart from the fact that force was needed when the vigil got out of control, on the other hand they had the authority to act because of the restriction measures against the coronavirus.
  • The “Coronavirus Law” has been criticized as a strict measure, allowing police authorities to arrest citizens who do not comply with biosecurity measures.
  • The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan had been in favor of the complaints of those arrested in the protests, but upon reviewing the authorities’ report he changed his mind, he said that “it is clear that the confidence of women and girls in the police and criminal justice system is far from adequate.”
  • Reclaim These Streets is the group that called the vigil but raised a complaint against the report presented, as they claim that the institutions are in favor of sexism.
